Policies

Note: in July 1998, the Board of the Brunswick Community Library reaffirmed its commitment to the Library Bill of Rights.

Internet Policy

Approved by the Board of Trustees February 2006

The Brunswick Community Library is dedicated to providing the community with a wide variety of information on all topics.

Patrons use the Internet at their own discretion. We do not censor the content available on the Internet. The Library does not monitor nor does it control the content of the Internet. Not all sites provide accurate, complete or current information. Some access points carry information that a user might find controversial or inappropriate. We encourage our patrons to be sensitive to the fact that they are in a public setting.

As with any library resource, parents and guardians are responsible for supervising their children's use of the Internet. Failure to comply with library guidelines may result in revocation of Internet privileges.

Rules of Use

The Library does not permit:

Violation of any federal or state law or regulation including, but not restricted to, copyright infringement and acts of a threatening, harassing, or obscene nature.

Abuse of equipment or policy may result in loss of library privileges.

Confidentiality of Library Records Policy

Adopted by the Board of Trustees, August 20, 2002

Policy:
Circulation records and other records identifying the names of library users shall be kept confidential as required by New York Law: Civil Practice Law and Rules section 4509 (attached).
Procedure:
Librarians and library employees shall not make such records available to any individual or group or state agency, federal or local government except pursuant to such process, order or subpoena as may be authorized by and pursuant to federal state or local law relating to civil, criminal or administrative discovery procedures or legislative investigative power.
Upon receipt of requests for records identified above, the Library Director will consult with library legal counsel to determine if such process, order or subpoena is in proper form and if there is a showing of good cause for its issuance.
Librarians and library employees will not release the records requested until it has been clearly established that the appropriate process, order or subpoena is in proper form and that there is a showing of good cause for its issuance.
