Information on Upcoming Elections

The League of Women Voters (LWV) of Rensselaer County is working with other Leagues in the Capital District to assemble on-line Voters Guides for candidates in our region.  The eVoters Guides will be issued for the September primaries and again for the general election in November.  With the on-line guide, you can learn about the candidates who are running to represent you and can create your own ballot showing your choices.  To access the guides, go to the LWV of Rensselaer County website at: www.lwvrc.org.

Be a Literacy Volunteer!

The following message is brought to you by the Brunswick Community Library, on behalf of the Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County, whose efforts we applaud and support:

Do you want to change a life for the better? Become a tutor! We can train you to help someone learn to read, write, and/or speak English.

The Fall Tutor Training will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 50 Leversee Road, Troy. This training will be offered on six Tuesdays from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., starting on September 11th and ending on October 23rd.

As a tutor trainee you will begin with a 3-hour Orientation/Introduction to Tutoring, followed by two Basic Literacy and/or English Language Learning sessions. A Successful Tutoring workshop concludes the training. A $35 materials fee is requested; scholarship money is available if needed.

To register and for more information, visit http://www.lvorc.org or call us at 274-8526.

Medieval merriment!

On Saturday, members of the Society for Creative Anachronism gathered at the library to share the fun with our young readers. They demonstrated fencing, spinning, and even brought a forge for glass bead making. You can click on the photos to see them in more detail.
