Buy your tickets now for an Old Daley Chicken Barbecue Dinner to benefit the Library, on Friday, September 10, from 4–7 PM, at the Wal-Mart Plaza on Hoosick St/Route 7. Dinners are $10.00, and include potato, cole slaw and dessert. Take out only. Tickets are on sale at the library.

Board of Trustee Candidates for Brunswick Community Library

The Brunswick Community Library is looking for candidates for its Board of Trustees. Registered voters who wish to be considered as candidates for election to the Board, may contact Julie Zelman, Director, at 279-4023 for further information. Trustees are elected to serve a three-year term.  Candidates must reside in the Town of Brunswick and will require 25 signatures from residents in the Town of Brunswick before their names can be placed on the ballot. The deadline for returning a petition to the library is August 28^th at 4 pm. Election of Trustees will take place on Tuesday, September 28^th, pending signature of the authorizing legislation by the Governor.

There are two things that we would like to see in your wallet: a voter registration card, and a medical id card.

You can register to vote by mail. Here is a link to a form that you can print out and fill in. We also have forms at the library, in case you know someone who needs one.

The medical id card is a handy tool to have in case of an emergency. It will help you get the care you need when you are unable to provide information to emergency responders. There is a site with templates for free cards, called MedIDs.com:  a card you can print out and fill in, and a blank one that you can print out and fill in by hand. It has spaces for medications, blood type, and allergies, and other useful information. In a situation where every moment counts, this card can save a life.

The Berkshire Museum’s show “Wrapped” is set to open tomorrow.  We have passes for the museum, but we recently received a letter that said that the museum would be charging a separate admission for this special exhibition, of $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. The pass will allow you to visit the rest of the museum for free.

I highly recommend the museum, it is great fun for all ages.  The letter explains that the museum’s contributed income is down about 20%…the Berkshire Museum was one of the first in our area to offer passes to libraries, at a reasonable price, so please support this institution–it’s a real treasure.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, to all those who helped make our Garden/Bake/Book Sale on Saturday , June 5th a rousing success. Over 1500 dollars was raised, and many beautiful plants will be gracing their new homes for years to come. There are some lonesome leftovers alongside the building, including ornament grasses and other perennials, which are available for the taking.

We’ve added another location to our museum pass program, The Hyde Collection in Glens Falls. It’s a historic house, and art museum, with programs for children and families–check it out! Their upcoming exhibition on Andrew Wyeth sounds well worth a visit. Each pass admits two adults and two children (under 18). They circulate for 3 days.

Our new Berkshire Museum passes are in–you’ll need those to check out the exhibition that’s about to end, Armed and Dangerous: Art of the Arsenal. There are many other reasons to visit the Berkshire Museum: 1) Ben and Jerry’s Scoop Shop within walking distance; 2) it has a mummy!; 3) their upcoming exhibition is about mummies!; 4) it has an aquarium. What more do you need to know?
